The bellowing cries of hundreds of famished and decaying bodies could be heard from across the valley, amplified by the neighboring gorge and melted into each other into an unholy cacophony of anguish. Everyone was content with keeping a good safe distance from the plaque-stricken village; the agonizing cries of those left to rot there banged on the bells of consciousness and sanity like a rotting flesh-mallet of doom. Be it by sin or folly, the fate of the soon-to-be-dead could not be altered, sealed as it were on the corrugated skin of their sterile land.

This entranced, ravished discord of impending death, chorusing aimlessly and borne by the screeching winds, landed on Eradran’s ears like a fiendish blow, as he set camp for the night to rest and recuperate for the continuation of his travels. It almost breached the columns of his resolve, sustained abruptly and relentlessly for the duration of the night, carrying within tiny samples of lamenting recitals of the village’s horrid story. Unable to have peace and rest, Eradran spent that night recording them, the task occupying and distracting his mind from the seemingly endless torture. This is his account of that story, as he recited it in the presence of the Lodge’s summons during the first full Harvest Moon earlier this month.
